Couch Potato: Stranger Things, Pride + Prejudice + Zombies

Fun To Watch Family Horror

We watched Pride + Prejudice + Zombies recently and I loved it! I am surprised since I have avoided the book, thinking it a cheap gimmick, but I misjudged. It actually blends the zombie element into the original Pride and Prejudice story in a plausible way, and keeps the essential Austen. Watching the movie you know it was made by people who love Jane Austen. I watched it with Kid the Younger, who is not in Jane Austen but is into zombies, and she was totally caught up by the story. It's inventive and funny and just a lot of fun to watch.

Also fun to watch for anyone who lived through the 1980's is the new Netflix original series Stranger Things. Netflix describes it as a love letter to the supernatural classics of the 80's, which is right on the money. It's a mix of genres - think E.T / Stand By Me / Carrie / 16 Candles. My kids weren't too interested, but once I started watching they stopped complaining, and pretty soon wanted to find out what would happen next. The child actors are great and steal the show. It's a tense and scary show, but only PG-13 (thank you Netflix for making a PG-13 show) and is over too soon with just 8 episodes. I hope we get a season two.

Here's a trailer:

Have a great weekend!
