Today in 1945, Emperor Hirohito announced over the radio his acceptance of the demands of Potsdam Declaration - unconditional surrender. When news reached the Allied countries, spontaneous celebrations broke out all over the world. The official documents of surrender were signed on September 2, 1945, in Tokyo Bay aboard the USS Missouri.
