Staying Busy While Stuff Happens
The penultimate month of the year is here! And the end of what seems like the longest election campaign happens in less than a week. It feels like the whole country is holding its breath.
If you need something to relax and distract you from all that, and are into coloring books, how about try a grayscale coloring book? I just stumbled on this type of coloring book where you color directly on a toned-down grayscale photo. Apparently this allows you to create colored pictures with surprising depth. Most people start with colored pencils with this type of coloring, and some combine it with markers. Here's a sample technique by Nicole Stocker who uses colored pencil over markers to color some animal photos in her coloring book Beautiful Animals with impressive results. She also has a Beautiful Nature coloring book. There is a lovely gallery of customer artwork at her site. I am tempted to give this grayscale coloring thing a try myself.
October in Review
We had some great new releases and book reviews this month! Seriously, check out the list below. And thank you again to Paul Duffau for his guest review of If You Can Keep It.
You may notice that I did not have any "Today in History" posts these past Sundays. That wasn't really planned - there just always seemed to be a news item or sale that I had to post about that day instead. Since we are entering the holiday season, that trend may continue. (Speaking of Holiday shopping, there is a $20 price drop on all Kindle e-readers right now, including on the Paper-White. It's only until Thursday, so be sure to check it out if it's on your gift list.)
I'd also like to thank everyone who's ordered stuff from my Zazzle store. I hope you like it and I will keep adding fun stuff to order. Let me know if you have any requests or suggestions!
Just a heads up - in addition to everything else happening this month, I've also signed up for NaNoWriMo which means I'll probably be kinda busy. So my posts may be terse this this month. It's going to be a crazy month. Please bear with me.
For easy reference, here are our books reviewed, shows watched, and all the other stuff in we did in October. Enjoy!
